Painted Hills Elopement | Colorful Disco Desert Inspiration

This styled elopement was inspired by the earthy natural hues of the hills, but we also knew wanted to include COLOR because it would really pop in the desert! The fun color palette, disco balls, and funky inspiration suite winked to the 70s!

It was important to us to showcase what a unique, intimate elopement could look like in a remote location like the Painted Hills.

We wanted to pull elements that would really enhance and compliment it’s unique elements.

About The Couple:

This shoot featured Glory and Omid, a vintage and disco-loving couple who share the love of new experiences and adventure! Glory grew up in Illinois and moved to Oregon shortly before meeting Omid! Glory moved to Oregon after looking for a change and she was attracted to how much Oregon had to offer; from the culture and vibe of Portland, to the rainy PNW coast, to waterfalls, deserts and so much more! When they met it was an immediate connection and after only 3 weeks after meeting each other, Omid said I love you!

We knew the couple had always loved disco balls and also would be aligned with the retro feel we were going for, so we knew we wanted to include them in the design! Glory even has a tattoo of a disco ball!

About The Design:

When planning the design, we knew we wanted to have a balance of staying on trend, but with a nostalgic feel. We tried to achieve that 70s aesthetic by including disco balls, macrame (which was very popular in the 70s), and an eclectic mixture of glassware!

For the florals, the bouquet was an organic mix of wildflowers and peonies tied off in elegant silk ribbons from @heyitsohsopretty.

The florist, Morgan from Blomstra says, “This season is all about dainty florals and mindfully placed blooms. Massive bouquets are beautiful, but a smaller amount of flowers forces the designer to really be mindful about the placement of each flower.”

We wanted to reflect that in the tablescape as well!  A more minimal, but intentional tablescape to let the colors and elements shine!

About The Styling:

One of my favorite parts of this shoot was the styling! We loved Omid’s rust-colored suit that actually matched the hills perfectly! We loved the idea of a colored suit, which is very on-trend, but also wanted a somewhat muted tone for a broom who wants to stand out, but doesn’t want to rock a bright color! It also perfectly matched the loveseat we brought for the lounge! See more photos of The Devyn Rust Couch!

Glory’s dress from For Love & Lemons had sleeves that were so dreamy and floated in the wind!

About the Location:

When planning this inspiration shoot, we connected with the park rangers because we wanted to fully understand the space and how the best way for us to produce the shoot in the most unintrusive way possible! In our meeting, the rangers expressed their openness in more intimate and micro-style events at the Painted Hills, as long as it was unintrusive and practicing LNT principles!

LNT or “Leave No Trace” are principles that support minimum impact for anyone spending time outdoors! There are 7 principles in which you can read about here!

There are multiple areas and trails you can take visit, but all of the photos in this blog post were taken at the Painted Hills Overlook Trail.

So you’ve seen what you needed to see, now how the heck can you get married there too?!
